Jemma is a self-confessed geek, the Simon Pegg version of the word…. “being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something.” She believes that massage is a true meeting of art and science, two of her greatest passions. Her classes involve hands-on learning through exploration and play, bringing the occasionally dry subjects of anatomy and pathology to life. She is a firm believer that everyone has the capacity to learn and thrives on creating a dynamic learning environment to cater to student needs. She brings her infectious laugh and quick wit to class and her only rule is – show up, be present, have fun!
Jemma holds a BTEC level 6 professional diploma in Advanced Clinical and Sports Massage, the highest level of qualification available in the UK for massage and bodywork. During this time, she had the opportunity to complete her own independent research project and choose body image as her area of focus, specially researching the efficacy of using myofascial release to improve body image in women aged 30-60. The project was a resounding success, with measured improvements seen across the participants, cementing Jemma’s belief that touch has potentially unrivalled power to improve quality of life both physically and psychologically.
She also holds ITEC & VTCT qualifications in Swedish and Sports massage, and continues to undertake courses on a regular basis, believing that the best students make the best teachers.
Jemma is the lead therapist at the renowned Jing Myofascial Pain Care Clinic in central Brighton, working with a wide spectrum of clients suffering from chronic musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
She also teaches BTEC level 4 and level 5 massage at Sussex Downs College in Lewes.
She holds a BA (hons) degree in Cultural and Historical Studies and continues to be enchanted by philosophy and the human condition. With over 10 years’ previous experience in the hospitality industry, running a busy and vibrant bar in Brighton she brings infinite energy, enthusiasm and a never-ending passion for learning into the classroom.
