Where will the course take place?

The majority of our courses take place at our headquarters in sunny Brighton:

Jing Advanced Massage Training
28-29 Bond Street
Brighton
BN1 1RD
Tel: 01273 628 942 / 07724 244 372

On occasion we run courses in other venues in Brighton; the exact address will be given when you book the course.

How do I get there?

Our main training centre is in the middle of the beautiful North Laines in Brighton, East Sussex, UK. Please see this map for our location.

By train:

There are 3–4 trains each hour running from London Victoria to Brighton. This is similar from London Bridge too. From the train station, we are a 10-15 minute walk.
The Trainline is a good place to buy tickets in advance.

By car:

  • From the A23 follow signs for the seafront on London Road (A23)
  • The road will turn into Grand Parade on a large roundabout
  • Take the left turn off the roundabout called Church Street
  • Take a left turn onto Portland Street
  • At the end of the road take a left onto North Street
  • Take the second left onto Bond Street – Jing Massage is halfway down on the right-hand side of the road

Course practicalities:

what to wear, lunches, timings, equipment

Who goes on Jing courses?

Anyone and everyone with an interest in massage are welcome to Jing! We take complete novices looking to qualify and begin a career in massage (see Bodywork Beginnings), therapists looking to expand their new practices with cutting edge effective techniques (see ACMT), and seasoned physiotherapists and osteopaths who are fine-tuning their listening touch (see BTEC level 6).

What time will the course start and finish?

Every course has a split registration time on the first day – if your surname begins with A-L please arrive at 9.00am. If your surname begins M-Z please arrive at 9.15am.
The course itself will begin at 9:30am each day. The course will finish between 4.30-5pm

What do I need to bring and how do I prepare?

The basic necessities for each course are all available to view by clicking HERE:

Courses do vary, and some require more or less equipment than others (for example in our Hot Stones course, you are required to bring a heater and a full stones set), so please take a look at your confirmation email before attending.

‘Massage Fusion: The Jing Method for the Treatment of Chronic Pain’ by Rachel Fairweather and Meghan Mari is the official Jing textbook written by our amazing directors – we would recommend this as a good place to start your Jing journey.

Do I need to bring a massage couch?

You are not required to bring a couch to almost all of Jing courses (with a small number of exceptions when we are based elsewhere – please see course confirmation for full details). In terms of buying your own couch for your massage practice, you can buy Affinity couches at a great price through us here.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable, loose clothing you can move around in for practical work – skirts and jeans are not appropriate. Please ensure your nails are trimmed before the course and avoid wearing any jewellery that could get in the way of massaging someone (ex. rings, bracelets and watches). Please note no shoes are worn in the studio.

Is there anywhere to eat lunch?

The North Laines in Brighton boasts an amazing array of cafes and restaurants; whether you’re a meat-eater, vegan, health foods addict or even fancy fish and chips on the pier, we would highly recommend you go out and explore the tantalising food options on our doorstep!

Social Media:

Is there anything I need to be aware of before I enrol at Jing?

Although our students meet regularly during the taught modules in Brighton, they are mostly working back at home in locations all over Europe. The Bodywork Beginnings and BTEC level 6 is therefore supported online by a Facebook forum and shared document files. Students are also encouraged to meet in regular informal study groups in their areas. If you are considering enrolling it is essential that you have the IT capability at home which will allow you to share in this online community. You will also need a computer to complete your written assignments and other required work.

Jing Training

Beginner - BTEC level 6 in Sports and Clinical Massage and beyond

How many students are on the course?

Jing has two studios that offer a beautiful space of calm, openness and creativity. Within these two studios we can accommodate a total of 34 students on each course. Our dedicated, patient and highly experienced teaching team work seamlessly to ensure every individual is given the level of support and encouragement they need to come away buzzing from each course.

Are all your courses CPD (Continuing Professional Development)?

Short answer? Yes! Yes they are.

What is the highest level of training Jing offers?

The Jing level 6 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Clinical & Sports Massage is currently the highest-level massage qualification available in the UK, and is the equivalent to a degree. It is a vocational qualification, which means that the emphasis is on practical hands-on skills rather than academic theory. Jing students come from all walks of life with differing experiences of learning; our diploma is therefore designed to include all and to provide support at an appropriate level for each individual.

How long is the BTEC?

The full BTEC level 6 qualification takes 3 years.

Year 1: ACMT – Advanced Clinical Massage Therapist certificate giving you skills and recognition as an advanced practitioner. This year is mandatory to go on to the final 2 years of the BTEC, but it is also a stand-alone year of CPD (continuing professional development) training that culminates in an exam and a qualification.

Year 2: Second year of BTEC made up of practical and written assessments and modules.

Year 3: Research project year – a year for you to really explore what you’re passionate about in massage and to produce a paper that will make a difference!

What are the prerequisites for BTEC level 6?

You will need to hold a qualification in massage to embark on the ACMT year of the BTEC. If you are not already a massage therapist you will need to take our prerequisite course – Bodywork Beginnings – or an alternative equivalent.

How much time should I allow for study and practice?

As the diploma is modular, it means that students have plenty of time between modules for study and practice. The course has been structured so that the first part focuses mainly on practical skills, with some theory, whereas the second part focuses more on theory subjects, combined with refining your practical skills. We therefore recommend that students allow half a day a week for study or practice.

I am interested in some of the modules – do I have to enrol on the whole BTEC level 6 to do them?

At Jing we have developed our courses as standalone modules to give our students maximum flexibility as to when and where they attend, especially as many of our modules are run several times a year.  Although it is possible to attend just a few of the modules, we have found that our students gain the maximum benefit from enrolling on the BTEC. This means that they learn as part of a constant group and can therefore share this experience, they learn within a specific time framework and they benefit from discounted fees, which can be paid on a regular monthly basis.

CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Points

CPD Point allocation

CPD points are awarded by your professional association, not by us. As the massage industry in the UK is unregulated, CPD points can sometimes be a little confusing! So I have contacted all the major associations and asked them what you need to do to get CPD points with each of them. Here is the break down:

The SMA (Sports Massage Association): 1 hour of study = 1 CPD point. Each month you fill the CPD you have done in the SMA app called CPDme and it will be allocated to your account.

The CHP (Complementary Health Professionals): 1 hour of study = 1 CPD point. Each time you complete CPD, you need to fill in the CHP’s reflective practice form, and then submit it to them.

The SMTO (Scottish Massage Therapists’ Organisation): 1 hour of study = 1 CPD point. Each time you complete CPD, you need to fill in the SMTO’s reflective practice form, and then submit it to them.

The FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists): Each time you complete CPD, you submit a reflective practice document – for each document you submit (minimum 500 words), you are awarded up to 5 CPD points.

What insurance do I need as a massage therapist?

Therapist Insurance

If you are already a qualified massage therapist, then your existing insurance should cover you for professional indemnity and public liability. This will also cover you for the advanced massage techniques you will learn on the diploma. Once qualified on our Bodywork Beginnings course, you will also be able to apply for professional indemnity cover to enable you to work with professional sports people and performers.

What insurance do you recommend?

We have a partnership with Balens Insurance, which offers a discounted deal to all Jing students. Please click here for more information.

What is your cancellation policy?

We are passionate about the courses we offer and want to know that you are too. So please give these a read so you are clear about what is expected of you and to make sure that you are committed to the full journey with your hands, head, and heart.

We also need you to understand that you are investing in a financial commitment that you are willing to honour.

We have kept this short and sweet as we know that reading small print is probably not top of your list of fun things to do!
